Sam Benastick discharged from hospital in Fort Nelson [Video]

Sam Benastick, who survived five weeks in the bitter cold wilderness of Northeast B.C. has been discharged from hospital in Fort Nelson.

The 20-year-old hiker was found suffering from frostbite and smoke inhalation after being discovered last week on the Redfern Lake Trail, according to reports. 

Mike Reid, a manager at the Buffalo Inn in Pink Mountain, who grew close with the family during their stay in the area while out searching for their son, shared with the CBC that Benastick survived the last 20 days of his disappearance with only one jar of peanut butter.

Reid also revealed to the broadcaster that Benastick told him he got lost after being chased by a wolf.

The RCMP have not released any new updates since Benastick’s discovery. According to a November 27 release, Benastick told the police that he stayed in his car for two days, then camped on a mountainside for 10 to 15 …
