A snowfall warning is in effect for parts of southwest Saskatchewan on Friday, with potential for some areas to reach up to 50 centimetres over the weekend.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued the warning around 3:45 p.m. on Friday for the rural municipalities of Gull Lake, Maple Creek, Piapot, White Valley, Carmichael and Arlington.

According to the weather service, heavy snow will develop Friday evening, with total snowfall accumulating 15 to 25 centimetres from Friday to Saturday evening, followed by another 10 to 20 centimetres from Saturday to Sunday evening.

Higher accumulation of snow is possible over parts of Cypress Hills, with the worst hit areas having the potential to see 30 to 50 centimetres of snow.
