A Canadian couple netted a large lottery win thanks to second thoughts about which ticket to buy.
A news release from Loto-Québec said Ross Strang Horrocks and Deborah Jane Stanway from Estrie, east of Montreal, won $2 million in the March 19 draw of Quebec 49.
The couple had initially planned to buy a Lotto Max ticket, but bought a Lotto 6/49 ticket instead, the release said.
They won a free play for the March 19 draw but had also added “Double Jeu,” which gives players a shot at Quebec 49 as well.
And sure enough, they won the top prize for Quebec 49.
“Everyone was wondering what was happening,” Horrocks recalled from when they validated their ticket at a retailer.
