Security forces in Pakistan launch operation to disperse Imran Khan’s supporters from streets [Video]

Supporters of Pakistan’s ex-premier Imran Khan, who are calling for his release from prison where he has been since August 2023, clashed with security personnel and set fire to a police check post in the capital Islamabad on Monday evening. Confrontations continued Tuesday as security forces fired tear gas at protesters after they defied a police lockdown to march on the capital.

Pakistani security forces launched an operation Tuesday night to disperse supporters of imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan who had gathered in the capital to demand his release from prison.

The latest development came hours after thousands of Khan supporters, defying government warnings, broke through a barrier of shipping containers blocking off a high-security zone in central Islamabad. They clashed with security forces, facing tear gas shelling, mass detentions and gunfire.
