The Virginia senator says “traumatizing your workforce isn’t a good way to get better production.”
WASHINGTON — One day after President Donald Trump’s address to Congress, Sen. Mark Warner (D-Virginia) said Trump’s 25% levies on goods from Mexico and Canada are “reckless.”
He said they amount to nothing more than a tax on American families.
“At the end of the day, American consumers are going to pay. That’s going to drive up the cost of cars. I understand about $12,000 in some cases. It will drive up the cost of building materials. We get a lot of lumber from Canada. It will drive up the cost of food,” Warner said.
“And again, this is a guy that was supposed to be elected on the basis of bringing down grocery prices. The opposite is taking place.”
