Police in Bridgewater, N.S. say they are the investigating the death of a woman found inside her home Sunday morning as a case of intimate partner violence.

Officers responded to a 911 call from a home on Haven Drive “for a female in medical distress,” police said in a news release on Monday.

Police say they located an elderly female inside the residence who “was injured from what appeared to be an assault with a weapon,” the release went on to say.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“An elderly male was located with related injuries inside a second room of the same residence,” police said.

Police noted the two had been in a long-term relationship and the force did not have any documented incidents of prior intimate partner violence connected to them.
