Series of armed robberies in Ontario towns lead to arrest [Video]

Durham Police have made an arrest in connection to four armed robberies at convenience stores in Whitby and Oshawa.

The robberies took place between April 6 and April 24 and police say in all incidents, the suspect pointed a black handgun at the store employees and stole cash, cigarettes, cannabis products and lottery tickets.

Investigators, with the assistance of Ontario Lottery and Gaming, were able to identify the suspect and a search warrant was executed at his residence in Oshawa on Wednesday. Officers seized a replica firearm, cannabis and a quantity of psilocybin. The suspect was arrested without incident.

Michael Viera, 41, is charged with four counts of robbery with a weapon and four counts each of pointing a firearm, using an imitation firearm in commission of an offence, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of stolen property and disguise with intent.

Viera is also charged with drug trafficking.

He was held for a bail hearing.
