A human trafficking investigation involving a young woman coerced into the sex trade has led to the arrest of an Oshawa man now facing multiple charges.

What started as a consensual relationship became exploitive over time and police said the accused manipulated the victim, “encouraging her to engage in sexual acts with other men in exchange for money,” with the suspect – Alan Donaldson, 28 – taking a portion of the proceeds.

On May 21 members of the Human Trafficking Unit executed a search warrant at a residence near Richmond Street West and Prince Street in downtown Oshawa – which is located within sight of the Oshawa police station

Donaldson was arrested without incident.

During the search investigators seized evidence consistent with human trafficking-related offences, along with more than five pounds of ‘magic’ mushrooms.

Police are concerned there may be other victims and the Human Trafficking Unit is working to identify and support those affected. …
