A man was shot at a home in Welland overnight, police say.

Niagara Regional Police said officers responded to a residence in the area of Leaside and McCrae drives, near Rice and Woodlawn roads, at 2 a.m.

Officers found a man with injuries.

“Niagara Emergency Medical Service paramedics personnel arrived at the scene and assessed the victim, who was ultimately transported to an out-of-region hospital for treatment,” police said.

The man’s injuries have since been reported to be non-life-threatening.

Police said that the suspect fled before officers arrived.

Detectives “have reason to believe” that the shooting was targeted, police added.

Anyone with information was asked to come forward.
