‘Sick of victimhood’: Graham Richardson slams Indigenous tax exemption proposal

Former Labor minister Graham Richardson says he is “sick of victimhood” after a proposal was made for Indigenous Australians to be exempt from land tax.

Prominent Aboriginal elder Aunty Jill Gallagher said Indigenous people should not be required to pay land taxes or council rates as part of treaty negotiations.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan did not rule out the push ahead of negotiations.

“Every malcontent that we’ve got wants to be a victim, and frankly, I am just sick of victimhood,” Mr Richardson told Sky News host Sharri Markson.

“Just get off your arse and do something sensible.”
