The Sarnia Police Service has been cleared of any criminal offence following a collision that injured an 80-year-old Sarnia woman.
According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), on Aug. 26, a police officer hit a vehicle that was being driven by the woman as she entered the Indian Road North and Exmouth Street intersection.
The SIU said the woman went into the intersection on a green light, going a reasonable speed, but does not know why the woman didn’t see the officer. The police vehicle was going through the intersection with its emergency lights and sirens on, came to a “virtual stop” at the intersection and proceeded through after seeing most traffic had stopped.
Director Joseph Martino found the “indiscretion fell short of amounting to a marked departure from a reasonable standard of care in the circumstances.
