After heavy rain, temperatures are expected to fall and strong wind and snow return to southern Ontario.

From 15 to 25 mm of rain combined with snow melt is expected on Wednesday in the GTA and much of southern Ontario, according to a special weather statement from Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Rain, heavy at times, and mild temperatures are expected throughout the day on Wednesday.

A high of 7 C is expected but the frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb the rainfall, Environment Canada said. Localized flooding in low-lying areas and water pooling on roads is possible.

There is also a risk of thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and early this evening.

Then winter returns with rapidly falling temperatures, strong winds, snow and local blowing snow starting Wednesday night into Thursday, according to the weather statement.
