Snow squalls and lake effect snow could bring as much as 50 cm of snow to parts of southern Ontario this week, weather watchers warn.

A snow squall watch issued on Tuesday for communities on the shores of Lake Huron was later upgraded to a warning with Environment and Climate Change Canada saying to expect up to 25 cm of snowfall in some parts of the province by Wednesday.

But some areas could see snowfall of up to 50 cm by Thursday, according to Instant Weather.

The weather website says some of the hardest-hit areas will be London and Collingwood with snowfall “potentially ranging from 25 to 50 cm over the next 48 hours.”

Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning that includes the London, Lambton Shores, Goderich, Bluewater and Southern Huron County areas.
