Snowbird bill: New bill aims to extend Canadian snowbirds’ time in the U.S. [Video]

Supporters say the bill would help boost local economies, tourism, and real estate in places such as New York and Florida.

U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik is introducing the Canadian Snowbird Visa Act, a bipartisan bill that aims to extend the how long Canadian citizens who 50 years old and own or lease a residence in the United States may stay. It would expand that time from 182 days to 240 days annually.

Supporters say the bill would help boost local economies, tourism, and real estate in places such as New York and Florida. 

The bill does include safeguards, such no access to U.S. jobs or public benefits.

“Our neighbors to the north provide more visits to the United States than any other country, and they are critically important to North Country tourism and industry,” Stefanik said in a recent statement.
