Snowfall up to 60 cm leads to warnings across southern Ontario [Video]

Snow squall warnings have been issued in several parts of the province as some areas could see up to 60 cm of snowfall by Tuesday night.

Environment and Climate Change Canada put out alerts early on Monday saying to expect up to 40 cm of snow in some areas. But snow squalls north of Barrie could bring up to 60 cm to some parts of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, the agency now says.

Heavy snowfall with accumulations of 30 to 60 cm are possible in Bruce County, Kincardine, Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Parry Sound, the Muskoas and elsewhere.

Peak snowfall could be between 4 to 6 cm per hour in some areas with reduced visibility due to heavy, blowing snow.

The snow squall system is expected to shift south by Tuesday evening and residents should be prepared for weather changes “from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres.”
