SNOWSTORM: Up to 40 cm of snow and wind takes over southern Ontario today [Video]

Most of southern Ontario is under a snowfall warning Wednesday.

Snow, at times heavy, will begin late Wednesday afternoon with up to 15 cm possible in the GTA, according to a warning from Environment and Climate Change Canada. Peak snowfall rates of two to four cm per hour are expected. Wind up to 30 km/h is expected.

In areas north of the GTA including Newmarket, northern York Region, Guelph and Kitchener could get higher amounts of snow—up to 25 cm. Up to 30 cm could hit the Muskoka area.

Up to 40 cm is possible in areas to the east of the GTA including Haliburton and Oxtongue Lake.

Communities near Lake Erie and the Niagara Region may avoid a large storm – between five and 10 cm of snow is expected in this part of the province.

The heavy snow will impact the evening commute, the warning states.
