It’s a little bit rhythmic gymnastics and a little bit aroma therapy and very much not a hot mess, but it is also the hottest wellness trend in the world these days and the first ever national championship is coming to Whitby next month.

Thermea Spa Village Whitby and Groupe Nordik are hosting Aufgusshow, a three-day event that will bring together top Aufgussmeisters from across the country to compete for the opportunity to represent Canada at the Aufguss World Master Championship this September in Verona, Italy.

Rooted in European sauna tradition, Aufguss is a powerful wellness ritual led by an Aufgussmeister, who pours essential-oil-infused water onto the sauna’s hot stones and use rhythmical towel movements to circulate the fragrant air. Some are accompanied by music while others let the sounds of towel-waving dominate the experience.
