Special weather statement in effect in the GTA and southern Ontario [Video]

It looks like the start of the weekend will bring bright sunshine after weeks of cloudy skies—but don’t be fooled by the clear conditions. It’s going to be a cold one in southern Ontario.

Environment Canada is advising residents to prepare for a sharp temperature drop by evening, with frigid wind chills settling in overnight.

A special weather statement warns that temperatures will fall rapidly and residents should bundle up with extra layers.

In Mississauga and Brampton, daytime highs will reach -13 C before dropping further in the evening, with wind chills making it feel closer to -19 C overnight.

In Halton, temperatures will be -13 C, with wind chills lowering to -16 C by evening.

In Hamilton, the low is expected to hit -14 C, with evening wind chills making it feel more like -20 C.
