A Mississauga woman faces several charges after a driver who was travelling at more than double the speed limit in an Ontario vacation town sped away from police on Sunday night.

The fleeing car crashed a short time later not far from where police first spotted it around 7 p.m. on Highway 26 near Wards Road in the The Blue Mountains, some 75 kilometres west of Barrie.

Collingwood/The Blue Mountains Ontario Provincial Police said a passenger in the car was taken to hospital with minor injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Police said an officer was conducting radar enforcement when a black Ford Mustang was seen travelling “at an extremely high rate of speed” westbound on Highway 26. Police later determined the car was moving “at more than twice the posted limit.”
