(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Oct. 14 is National Indigenous People’s Day which aims to celebrate the native people of North America and provide an alternative to Columbus Day.

Tori Zeiger, Director of NAGPRA at St. Joseph Museums, hopes that they can use this day to educate people on the importance of Native American recognition.

“The history of the United States and of North America and of South America did not begin When settlers and Europeans came over,” Zeiger said.

“There’s tens of thousands of years of history where indigenous, indigenous people and native peoples were here and were cultivating the land, and they had thriving cultures.”

You can visit the St. Joseph Museum to tour the Native American Exhibition.
