One of the longest-ever Calgary Stampeder careers ever just got a little longer when the team signed kicker Rene Paredes to a two-year contract Wednesday.
The 2025 season will be Paredes’ 14th with the team. He is currently fourth all-time and his 229 regular-season games played is second all-time for the club.
“He’s been a mainstay of the organization for a long time and it’s always a big day when René makes a commitment to remain with the Stampeders,” said Calgary general manager and head coach Dave Dickenson, in a media release. “He’s a big part of the team and he’s a big part of the community.”
Paredes remained true to form in 2024 despite the team having its worst season since he joined them in 2011. He played every game, and made 41 of 44 field goals, a 93.2 per cent success rate – his seventh season with a success rate over 90 per cent.
