There’s a severe thunderstorm warning on for the GTA including Mississauga and Brampton with a risk of strong winds, hail and tornadoes across southern Ontario.
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning in Peel following storm watch alerts earlier in the day for a large area of the southern Ontario including Durham Region east to Ottawa and Cornwall, and areas north of the GTA including Barrie, Orillia and cottage country.
A special weather statement says winds could be blowing at 80 km/h and gusting up to 110 km/h with nickle-sized hail stones, as a cold front moving through the area is expected to trigger severe thunderstorms, Environment Canada says.
The wind could cause objects to be tossed by the wind, cause injury or damage, with power outages possible and a risk of tornadoes forming.
