A special weather advisory continues for parts of B.C.’s coast, with strong winds forecast for Monday.

Northerly winds of up to 70 km/h will persist in the southern sections of Howe Sound until Monday morning, while gusts of up to 90 km/h will linger in the north coast’s coastal regions until Tuesday afternoon, Environment Canada said.

Although warning level winds will ease Tuesday for the north coast, including Prince Rupert and Portland Inlet, the strong winds will continue well into Wednesday, the weather agency said.

Ahead of the windy weather commuters are advised to expect hazardous driving conditions, especially on highways subject to strong cross winds.

Fierce winds could topple trees and cause power outages, and loose, outdoor objects are advised to be secured, the statement warned.
