Students try to talk their way to Ontario championship in Mississauga [Video]

Dozens of high school students from across Ontario will gather in Mississauga this weekend to discuss and debate a wide range of issues and topics from satire and memes to democratic speech and health care — and many things in between.

Having won their respective regional championships, 20 high school teams will compete on Saturday and Sunday at the University of Toronto Mississauga in the Ontario Ethics Bowl championship.

ISNA High School in Mississauga and Heart Lake Secondary School in Brampton are among those vying for the provincial title and two berths representing Ontario at the Canadian Ethics Bowl championship next month in Winnipeg.

Competition organizers say “a weekend of fierce competition and rewarding collaboration” is on tap as the teams, each comprised of as many as six members, engage in “civil discourse” focused on any number of topics and issues.

The event is open to the public and will be live-streamed throughout the weekend.
