Stunt driving charge laid near Mississauga plaza known for street racing [Video]

Police nabbed a motorist who was travelling at well over double the speed limit on Tuesday near a plaza in Mississauga’s west end notorious for illegal and dangerous driving behaviour.

Peel Regional Police said the driver was clocked at 122 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Eglinton Avenue West near Ridgeway Plaza. The motorist was charged with stunt driving/speeding and had their licence suspended for 30 days. In addition, their vehicle was impounded for two weeks.

Stunt driving in Ontario is defined as travelling at:

  • 50 km/h or more over the speed limit where the posted limit is above 80 km/h
  • 40 km/h or more over where the limit is 80 km/h or less
  • a speed of 150 km/h or more on any road or highway
