Mounties on B.C.’s Sunshine Coast are asking anyone who witnessed an assault aboard a Thursday afternoon BC Ferries sailing to contact them.

The assault occurred in the elevator on the 4:20 p.m. sailing departing Horseshoe Bay for Langdale, Sunshine Coast RCMP said in a news release Friday.

The victim was a 79-year-old Sechelt man, police said, adding that he suffered “injuries to his face” in the incident.

“There may have been several witnesses who saw the suspect and victim immediately after the assault when the elevator opened,” the release reads.

“Anyone who witnessed this incident, who has not already spoken with police, is asked to call the RCMP at 604-885-2266.”

The file number for the case is 2024-9895, police said.
