Sylvan Lake ice ‘dangerous’ for motorized vehicles: RCMP [Video]

RCMP issued a warning after two vehicles fell through the ice on Sylvan Lake on Saturday. 

Visitors and residents were warned to be cautious of the ice conditions and to stay off with any motorized vehicles.

“No injuries have been reported in these incidents, but they highlight the urgent need for caution,” Mounties said in a press release. “Ice thickness can vary significantly across the lake, and current conditions are unsafe for vehicles or other heavy equipment.”

In Edmonton, the city’s fire department asks people to stay a “safe distance” away from the North Saskatchewan River and storm water ponds

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services told CTV News Edmonton on Sunday that while ice on the river and on ponds might look thick, flowing water underneath it and fluctuating temperatures “create weak areas.”
