The looming threat of U.S.-imposed tariffs amid a worsening “food insecurity crisis” has food banks in Mississauga urging people to support those who need help buying groceries for their families.
As Food Banks Mississauga prepares to launch its annual Give 30 fundraising campaign during Ramadan, it says the need is as great as ever — and growing rapidly. Officials with the charitable organization, which leads a network of more than 60 community agencies across the city, add a donation of $84 will provide a family with a week’s worth of food.
Give 30 is a grassroots initiative founded in 2012 that encourages everyone, regardless of faith, to show empathy for those who face food insecurity and give in the spirit of Ramadan, FBM officials say.
Ramadan, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community, begins Friday and continues until March 29 in Canada.
