Tariffs expected to impact US consumers this week [Video]

With these tariffs taking effect, consumers may soon see price increases on a range of products, from groceries to gasoline.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — President Donald Trump is moving forward with a 25% tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico, as well as a 10% tariff on Canadian oil, starting tomorrow. Experts say the move will lead to higher prices on everyday items and could affect gas prices.

Trump initially delayed the tariffs last month after negotiations with the Canadian prime minister and Mexican president. However, his administration reinstated them after stating it was not seeing sufficient progress in stopping fentanyl from entering the U.S.

Dr. Patrick Crowley, an economics professor at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s School of Business, said the tariffs could drive up prices for American consumers, particularly if a commonly used product is primarily produced in Mexico or Canada.
