MAINE, USA — Two University of Maine men’s ice hockey forwards have signed with NHL teams in the wake of the team’s season-ending loss to Penn State in the NCAA Tournament.
Taylor Makar has signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche, and Harrison Scott has a signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars.
The hockey clubs made the announcements on Monday that the players had signed their contracts through the 2025-2026 season. They will report to their team’s American Hockey League affiliates on an amateur tryout for the rest of the 2024-2025 season.
Makar, a 24-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, totaled 30 points in 38 games for UMaine this season. Before he played with UMaine, he began his college career at the University of Massachusetts Amherst for three seasons.
