A teen is dead after a canoe capsized in Ontario.
Ontario Provincial Police said that shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Monday, emergency crews responded to Faraday Lake in the Bancroft area for reports of a capsized canoe.
“When emergency crews arrived on scene, there was one occupant of the canoe that was unaccounted for,” OPP said.
“Two other males had safely made it to shore.”
The OPP underwater search and recovery unit then found the body of the third canoeist.
Police said he was a 19-year-old man from Scarborough, calling the death a “suspected drowning.”
“The individual had not been wearing a life jacket,” OPP said, adding that the water is still very cold, making it even more challenging if someone were to fall in.
“The OPP calls on everyone to always wear a PFD or life jacket when on the water.”
