A teen is dead after crashing into a snowplow overnight in St. Catharines, police say.

Niagara Regional Police said emergency crews responded to the scene on Glenridge Avenue, between Lockhart Drive and John Macdonell Street, at around 1:15 a.m. Monday.

A Red Pontiac Vibe was heading north on Glenridge Avenue when the driver lost control, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with a snowplow that was heading south, police said.

“Tragically, the driver of the Pontiac Vibe, a 19-year-old St. Catharines resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Anyone with information or video footage related to the incident was asked to come forward.
