A teenager hit while riding a hoverboard is recovering from injuries in Ontario.

The 13-year-old boy was struck by a pickup truck while he was riding a hoverboard in Quinte West shortly before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, OPP said.

A hoverboard is typically described as a self-balancing electric scooter. They don’t actually hover.

The teen was in the crosswalk as the truck was turning at the Dundas and Front Street intersection, police said.

Police said an off-duty doctor was in the area and checked the young person. The teen was transported to hospital by paramedics and was later transferred to a regional trauma centre, police added.

Police said the boy is now recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Quinte West OPP continue to investigate the incident.

Electric skateboards, hoverboards and unicycles are generally not allowed on city roads in Ontario. Currently, these vehicles are not provincially regulated.
