Ontario’s police watchdog has cleared officers after a teen carrying a knife was shot by less-lethal rounds and a taser at a Brampton high school earlier this year.
The incident happened on Feb. 9 at Pauline Vanier Catholic Elementary School in Brampton when Peel Regional Police officers received a report from a youth about someone with a gun at the school, Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says.
Officers found no gun when they arrived, and discovered the report was fake after speaking with the 15-year-old male who made the call.
But the distressed teen had “a large knife,” leading police to contain the 15-year-old until members of the PRP tactical team arrived.
