People who drive through Ontario’s largest city may notice that there are a lot more speed cameras.
The City of Toronto said in a news release that it has doubled the number of devices it uses.
There are now 150 in Toronto, up from the previous 75.
“The cameras will help us remind drivers to reduce their speed and keep everyone safer on our roads,” Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said in the release.
“Our goal is for no drivers to get a fine for speeding, but that’s only possible if everyone sticks to the speed limit and follows the road rules.”
In December, Toronto City Council approved the installation of 75 new cameras, the release said.
The City said the cameras are installed in community safety zones.
The original 75 cameras have been distributed evenly though the city’s wards, with most being rotated regularly.
