The farewell tour is appropriately named after The Who’s 1971 classic “The Song Is Over.”

WASHINGTON — Legendary rock band The Who have officially announced their North American Farewell Tour, marking the end of their six-decade career of live performances across the continent. 

As Rolling Stone noted, this won’t be the group’s first farewell tour. The band launched one back in 1982, but Townshend was 37 back then and Daltrey was 38. More than four decades later, Townshend will turn 80 this month and Daltrey is 81. 

The farewell tour is appropriately named after The Who’s 1971 classic “The Song Is Over” from their critically acclaimed album “Who’s Next.” 

 “Well, all good things must come to an end,” Townshend said in a press release. “It is a poignant time. For me, playing to American audiences and those in Canada has always been incredible.
