These Ontario communities are asking visitors to stay away [Video]

Several Ontario communities are asking people to postpone visits until they recover from the ice storm.

The OPP issued a public alert on Wednesday asking non-local visitors to avoid coming to areas in the central region of Ontario.

The areas most impacted include Bracebridge, Huntsville, Haliburton, the City of Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough and Northumberland County (Cobourg, Port Hope, Brighton and area).

These areas are still struggling with power outages after a devastating ice storm on the weekend. Another weather system could hit the area again on Wednesday and Thursday.

The OPP said these communities are currently facing some challenges with essential supplies including fuel, food and other necessities.

Police and emergency responders across the area are still actively managing the significant impacts of the freezing rain event, the OPP said. The event caused considerable damage to trees, power lines and infrastructure, and was further exacerbated by high winds through the night into the early morning hours of March 31, police said.
