(Gray News) – Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he is prepared to cut off electricity exports to the United States after President Donald Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Canadian exports.

“If they want to try to annihilate Ontario, I will do everything including cut off their energy with a smile on my face. They need to feel the pain,” Ford said Monday.

Ford said he would match tariffs and noted that the U.S. is a major consumer of Canada’s electricity.

In an address to Congress Tuesday night, Trump said he imposed tariffs on Mexico and Canada because of “trade deficits” and also said, “They’ve allowed fentanyl to come into our country at levels never seen before, killing hundreds of thousands of our citizens.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Tuesday that Canada is planning to impose tariffs on over $100 billion of American goods over 21 days.
