Ontario Premier Doug Ford has told LCBO locations to be ready to remove U.S.alcohol from shelves if President Donald Trump follows through on his threats of tariffs.
The announcement came earlier today when Ford attended a news conference by the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA).
“I’ve sent a direction to the LCBO that if these tariffs come, to clear off every bit of U.S. alcohol off the shelves. Let’s start promoting more Ontario-made wines, spirits and vodkas, that’s what we need to do. We are the largest purchaser of alcohol in the entire world, they will feel the pain,” said Ford when addressing members of the press.
Trump — set to be sworn in today (Jan. 20) during his inaugural ceremony — has stated that when he takes office he will impose a 25 per cent tariff on all Canadian and Mexican imports.
