They are not only pirating parcels from your porch, but thieves are increasingly smashing into neighbourhood mailboxes to get at your stuff.
Halton Regional Police say they are seeing a spike in the number of neighbourhood mailboxes that are under attack across the region.
The communities affected are Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills.
Burlington has seen the largest increase, according to police, with mailboxes in the Millcroft and Orchard neighbourhoods most frequently targeted; however, break-ins are occurring just about everywhere.
No arrests have been made.
“The break-ins are occurring in the early morning hours between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.,” police say. “Suspects are using tools to pry open parcel lockers and steal mail and packages.”
Police say they are stepping up patrols in many areas; however, they ask members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
