A third teen was sentenced Friday in connection with a carjacking that killed an Iraqi immigrant.
Raydon Collins pleaded guilty in February to a charge of aggravated robbery related to the shooting Sept. 19, 2023, that killed 23-year-old Ahmed Zainuldeen. He was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Ivy Crossing Apartment Complex near South Quebec Street and East Yale Avenue.
On Friday, he was sentenced to five years in the youth offender system and 13 years in the Department of Corrections. He was initially charged with first-degree murder, but that was dismissed as part of the plea deal.
According to an arrest affidavit from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, Zainuldeen went outside when he heard his car alarm and was knocking on the front window of his vehicle when one of the teens fired a gun from the back seat, killing him.
