With a population of just over 51,000, you might assume that Brandon, Manitoba is not exactly an epicentre of heavy-metal fandom. And that assumption would be correct.

In fact, when reached by phone, Thirteen Goats singer-guitarist Graham K. Miles and his band are fresh from playing to “about a dozen people” in Brandon. That’s just fine with Miles, though—especially since nearly everyone who turned up spent money at the merch table.

“For us, the people who show up are the right people,” says the gregarious frontman, “and we’re always happy to play for ’em.”
