Thousands gather in Hartford for Winterfest Volleyball Tournament [Video]

HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – Hartford is hosting one of the largest events of the year as the Nike New England Winterfest Volleyball Tournament brings thousands of athletes, coaches, and fans to the city.

The event is having a significant impact on the local hospitality industry during a traditionally slower time of year.

The three-weekend tournament, which started with opening ceremonies earlier today, is expected to attract around 30,000 people to Hartford.

Athletes from across the region and beyond, including participants from as far as Canada, are competing in the event.

Games are taking place throughout the weekend, continuing tomorrow and into next weekend.

Bob Murdock, President of the Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau, emphasized the importance of the event for the region’s economy.
