Threats with “hate-bias overtones” aimed at high school students and a local business have led to the arrest of a young man from Hamilton, police say.

The arrest happened on Wednesday, when officers took an 18-year-old male into custody, the Hamilton Police Service says.

Investigators say the young man made “threats to cause harm or death towards students” at Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School.

A business near Upper Wentworth Street and Mohawk Road also received threats, police say.

Police haven’t disclosed the nature of the threat or when it was made, but say it had “hate-bias overtones.”

“Safety planning was discussed and the male was arrested without incident,” Hamilton police said in a release. “Police are confident that there is no longer a public safety concern.”

Hamilton police say the man, who has not been identified, is facing a charge of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
