Two women and a man, all from Mississauga, have been arrested in Waterloo after a series of distraction thefts targeting the elderly.
On Friday at around 5:20 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police say they were called to a store near Erb Street West and Fischer-Hallman Road. An employee told police that they recognized two women in the store that might have been involved in a string of recent distraction theft cases against the elderly.
Police said they arrested two women on site. Through further investigation, police determined one of the women would distract their victim, while the other would steal items from the victim’s purse while they were in stores.
Police said they found a getaway vehicle in the store parking lot, where they arrested a man.
Police said they recovered several bank cards, credit cards, and cellphones.
