Tlingit & Haida recently handed out hundreds of pounds of sockeye and coho salmon to tribal citizens in Anchorage.

The tribe shared this video on Facebook from its big distribution event held at the Fireweed Office parking lot.

“I don’t know how to explain it, but there’s just something about salmon that heals a little bit when you have it in a meal, you know and it just goes a lot further than that. So it’s awesome,” said Ralph Wolfe, Tlingit & Haida director of Indigenous Stewardship Programs.

Over 250 people registered for the sockeye and coho distribution event in Anchorage.

That marks the 10th community that Tlingit and Haida has visited to give out salmon, and leaders say they have 11 more to go.
