Toledo woman found not guilty in 2024 shooting [Video]

On May 1, a Lucas County jury ruled that Lashawn Dobbins had acted in self-defense in the shooting.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Body camera footage from Sept. 10, 2024, shows police arriving at an active scene on Ontario Street in west Toledo.

A woman can be seen with blood pouring from her chest, and officers rush to keep her alive.

Looking only at the video, you can see why the shooter, Lashawn Dobbins, was charged with felonious assault.

But her attorney, Jake Sadilek, says context is critical. From the beginning, Dobbins was clear that she acted in self-defense.

“It’s been Ms. Dobbins unwavering contention that two individuals approached her parked car, one of them brandishes a weapon, standing in front of her car, and before she knows it, the other assailant, the alleged victim, comes from behind, sticks her hand in the open window and maces Ms. Dobbins,” Sadilek told WTOL 11. “Ms. Dobbins fires blindly in self-defense; she …
