Ontario has seen its first recorded tornado of the season.

The Northern Tornadoes Project said that following a ground and drone survey, they have confirmed that an EF0 tornado occurred near Lakeside, west of Woodstock, early on May 16.

It happened at 3 a.m. along the leading edge of a line of storms, they wrote.

“Only trees and a power pole were damaged along the tornado’s narrow path,” NTP said.

“Radar at the time shows a compact area of low-level rotation.”

NTP completed its survey on Tuesday which documented the tree damage.

The tornado had an estimated maximum wind speed of 115 km/h, a track length of 3.6 km and a path width of 160 m.

No injuries were reported.

EF0 is the lowest on the EF scale, which goes up to five.
