Ottawa OPP have laid multiple charges against a local tow company and two of their drivers after they towed a driver’s vehicle to the Collison Reporting Centre against the vehicle owner’s wishes and caused damage to the car in the process.
Police also said the tow truck drivers with IK Royal Towing told the vehicle owner the OPP “told them to do so” and that the company was under contract with the OPP, which they are not.
The company is facing more than $1,700 in penalties. Both drivers are also looking at more than $1,300 in fines.
Police are reminding drivers they have the right to refuse services from a tow company and choose which tow company they wish to use.
