Trade and tariffs with Canada could impact states disproportionately [Video]

An analysis highlights the potential disproportionate impact of tariffs on Canada for certain states in the northwest region.

The analysis from Lending Tree highlighted Montana’s heavy reliance on Canadian trade, revealing that 92% of the state’s imports come from Canada. This makes Montana the most dependent state on Canadian trade in the region.

The study also showed that other states, while less reliant than Montana, still significantly depend on Canadian imports. Washington sources about 30% of its imports from Canada, Idaho receives 22%, and Oregon gets 21%.

The findings underline the potential impact of tariffs on Canadian goods, particularly lumber, on these states’ economies. The analysis suggests that any changes in trade policies could disproportionately affect Montana, given its high level of trade dependency with Canada.
